August 22nd, 2010

Dear Journey Church,

It is with many mixed emotions that I submit my resignation today from the staff of Journey Church.  It’s not an easy decision to leave Journey, but Suzanne and I feel confident that it is the right one.  Journey is in the midst of transition into a much-needed new season for the church, and it is clear to us that God is stirring the hearts and minds of many Journey people with a calling and a passion for this next season of the church.  The time has come for us to move on and leave this church in the capable hands of those people, and more importantly, in the hands of God who has held us all through everything. We were so blessed and honoured to feel a calling by God to be part of the visioning and launching process the first time around for Journey 4½ years ago, but want to step aside now to make room for others God is stirring and calling to fill whatever holes that might be created by our departure.  Mesh has asked us to stay until the end of the year in December, and, aside from unforeseen developments, that is the plan.  In the next few months, while figuring out what the next season of life will look like for my family, I will be working hard to help make the transition for Journey ministry as smooth as possible.  Please know that I am resigning on good terms – there is no agenda here unbeknownst to you.  No one has asked me to leave or suggested in any way that it is time for me to move on.  This is a decision Suzanne and I have felt persuaded on by God alone.

We love the people of Journey more than we can ever express.  The relationships we have formed in the last 4 years, many in the heat of intense spiritual battles, are precious to us.  We care a great deal for this church and want to see it continue to grow deeper and wider, shaping people’s lives for the kingdom of God.  However, we think that our family moving on to a different part of His kingdom at this time is best for us and also for Journey.  Suzanne and I strongly feel that God is much better at arranging the parts of His Body than we are, and so we trust that Journey will be fine without us, just as we will be fine apart from Journey.  We celebrate what God has done in this partnership and will move on with very few regrets and every confidence that God will be faithful to Journey and our family, just like He always has.

Thank you for your passion for God, your love for my family, and your faithful prayers. God is good.

For the Kingdom,

Malcolm

Day Camp Set Building 2010

Published on Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

Hey all,

One of the things that has always been fun about daycamp has been setting the stage. In the past, we’ve had a science lab complete with bubbling beakers and colorful test tubes. Last year, we turned a regular old circus tent - if a circus tent can be “regular” - into a swamp straight out of the Bayou. This year, we’re adding pirates and ships and going on a high seas adventure.

This is not a job that one person can do alone and so we’re looking for all hands on deck to help with creating the set for day camp 2010. We will be building a pirate ship, painting critters (you know those cut outs that you can stick your head through? yup. those) and making signs. And just in case you’re wondering, this is not “decorating.” This is construction…light construction but construction none the less. Men and women welcome.

Kate Herring has been planning and creating for months and is ready to open her home for two dates to build and create. Plan to be at Kate’s on

June 23 from 7-9 pm
and
July 6 from 7-9:30 pm.

Please RSVP to Stacey at stacey@journeychurch.ca prior to the date so that Kate can have enough projects and supplies ready to go for us to get all the work done.

Each year we’ve done this, we’ve had a ton of fun and actually been quite productive. It would be great to have a bunch of you join us. Many hands make light work.

2010_family_camp_poster2Family Camp 2010

The smell of campfire, the laughter of good friends, kids running around, late night games and the challenge to live our lives with God. Many of us have great memories of camp, and this year’s family camp is going to be an exceptional one! Our theme this year is “The Community of God ~ The God of Community.” It goes botyh ways and our lives can be so much fuller when we live in the community of God and follow the God of community.

Family camp is always a wonderful time to relax and visit with old and new friends! For those looking for great activities while they do that, there will be campfires, scavenger hunts, a sandcastle building contest, ski boat (and tubing in May) and, of course, the annual ball game.

Adult, teen and children’s programming available.

For more information and registration go to www.pinelakechristiancamp.com or call 403-886-4661
