…from our friends at MCC (the church in Ohio that sent our dear friends to help with day camp).

Dear Friends,

Thank
you for taking the time to review our request for assistance with our
Medical Mission Trip to the people of the Amazon Basin. The Ministry we
are partnering with has been in Brazil for 40 years. Eleven years ago,
Central Brazil Mission (CBM) began trying to meet the health care needs
of people living in the remote areas of the Amazon River.

Medical
supplies are hard to come by in Northern Brazil and funding to purchase
them strains the resources of CBM. They have partnered with local
churches, hospitals and concerned people to meet the great need for
health care and education in the region.

Here is a list of
current needs. Anything you can do to help with this project will be
greatly appreciated and used to provide free health care to people in
need. (All donations are tax deductible)

Meds. needed for August 2009 boat trip:

Antifungal cream
Muscle rub
Albendazole
Vaginal fungal cream

Be Encouraged

Published on Thursday, August 20th, 2009

Dear Church,

Thinking about the following, and purposing in your heart to do something about it, may take you only a moment, but it could change many things about your life:

I was reading this morning one of my favourite “Spirit” sections in Scripture (Galatians 5) and I read again these words:  “You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free.  But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another humbly in love.  For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command:  ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’  If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.”  A bit later, in discussing the deeds of the sinful nature, Paul includes “discord, . . . , dissensions, factions.”

Wow!, our attitudes and behaviours toward others in the body of Christ are very significant to God!  The discord that fosters dissensions and factions is described as the exact opposite of the working of the Holy Spirit.  Are you holding a grudge against someone in the body or letting anger control the way you think of them?  Is gossip part of this?  It is time to let it go, at least if you want to keep in step with the Spirit!  Let’s all conform our minds to the will of the Holy Spirit who lives within us!

Family Services

Families are important to Journey. That’s why we try to give a few opportunities each season for families to all worship together. Journey Kids (preschool and elementary aged) will be joining the larger church family for services on September 6, 2009**.

** The nursery room will be open and available for children infant to age 2 to be accompanied by their parents. Feel free to use that space as needed.
